Peyronie’s disease is a condition where abnormal scar tissue (plaques) forms beneath the skin of the penis, leading to bending, pain, or deformities during erections. Unlike natural variations in penile shape, Peyronie’s plaques create a noticeable curve, often accompanied by discomfort or difficulty with intercourse.

What causes a curvature in the penis?
The causes of Peyronie's disease aren't fully understood but minor injuries or genetic factors may trigger plaque formation. The disease is most common in men aged 40–70, though younger men can also be affected. Treatment depends on severity—options include oral medications, injections, physical therapy, or surgery for significant curvature that interferes with sexual function.
It’s thought Peyronie’s disease generally results from repeated injury to the penis. During the healing process of such injury, scar tissue forms, which might then lead to the development of a curvature.
Understanding Peyronie's
Curvature in the penis, known as Peyronie's disease, is a condition caused mainly by the development of a scar in the penis. Due to the inability of scar tissue to stretch, erections cause the penis to curve/bend in the direction of such tissue.
Dr. Zorn recommends visiting the ER as soon as possible in order to avoid complications or to completely avoid scar tissue from developing altogether.
